The Psychiatric Department in Juba Teaching Hospital receives about 20 patients with physiological trauma on daily basis, a health official has said.

The director for Mental Health in Juba Teaching Hospital, Atong Ayuel, says most of the mental illnesses are brought about by social and financial problems.

She says from October 2014 to date, the department has received seventy nine people who are mentally deranged.

“We’re now having the campaign for the homeless mentally ill who are moving naked around the cities in the whole country,” said Dr Ayuel.

She added that the department will raise community awareness on how to handle mentally disabled people.
