The United Nations has strongly condemned the robbery of the compound of a humanitarian organization in Juba.

The Humanitarian Coordinator for South Sudan, Eugene Owusu, says aid workers of Nile Hope were held at gunpoint and NGO assets taken during the robbery on Friday.

In a statement, Mr Owusu says the incident is unacceptable and has called for respect and protection of humanitarian staff and assets.

He says the robbery is the latest in a string of violent incidents affecting humanitarian partners operating in South Sudan.

In October alone, humanitarian partners reported 32 cases of attempted or successful robbery and looting. Almost half of the incidents were in Juba.
