The rate of HIV infection in Yei County has increased over the last two months, says the Yei HIV and AIDS Commission.

The program coordinator of the commission, Chris Issa Gordon says lack of awareness and insecurity are the main cause of the prevalence increase.

He told Eye Radio that the commission recorded over 60 patients tested positive with the virus in the month of May alone.

Mr. Issa also says the massive movement of from urban to the rural area over insecurity is expected to increase the rate of infection by the end of this year.

“The level of Ignorance in terms of HIV knowledge and practices in the villages is like a breeding ground and timing bum for HIV infection. Currently we have a total of 64 clients tested positive for the month of May so this is very alarming number,” he said, calling on the Government and other partners to intervene in creating mass awareness in the rural communities of the county.
