A boma headman has been killed and two children went missing after foreign nomads attacked a fishing camp in Ibba County of Western Equatoria State on Thursday.

The incident occurred along Rindi river, situated about 12 kilometers west of Ibba County.

Local authorities say the deceased headman of Mungua Boma left for fishing with his two wives and two children.

Ibba County Commissioner said the suspected nomadic pastoralists commonly known as Ambororo followed the late Justin James to the riverside where he went on Thursday morning to check his fishing net.

Commissioner Elisama Charles narrates the incident to Eye Radio last evening.

“When he went this morning to collect the fish on his fish nets in the river, the Ambororo caught his footprint and followed him up to the place where he went to collect his nets,” he Elisama.

“So when they met him, they shot and killed him, so we have sent people to go and bring his dead body back.”

According to the Commissioner, the Ambororo moves with large herds of cattle in the bushes.

The nomads believed to have migrated from Chad, are reportedly carrying machine guns while others wear military uniforms similar to that of South Sudan.

He says the nomads have carried out several attacks on the local population around water points in Moruko, Madebe, and Nabanga Payams.

The latest incident occurred on Monday March 6, 2023, when a youth leader was killed in similar clashes between natives and the herders in Nabanga Payam.

Since 2010, about 100,000 herds of Ambororo cattle were said to have been evacuated from the bushes in Western Equatoria but they later returned to the area.
