Women in Kadoro residential area, in Gumbo Sherikat east of Rejaf Payam have complained about the lack of basic services such as water, schools, and health facilities.

The women shared their grievances during Eye Radio’s live broadcast in the area on the International Women’s Day on Wednesday.

Some of them who own small businesses also complained about poor roads and lack of electricity, which makes them close early affecting their working hours.

Catherine Okoo, one of the businesswomen, owns a laundry business in the area.

“This business gives me a small income to take care of my children and myself,” she said.

“But we in Kadoro do not have proper roads, access to clean water, health facilities and electricity. When a pregnant woman need attention there are no good roads for them to access the hospital.”

“Since we came to Kodoro in 2011 till date we are facing challenges of roads water and no single pole of electricity,” said another woman.

“There are many challenges, but we are living in this area because of the love we have for each other as neighbors.”

“We women in the area are really suffering. my house is next to the stream so when it rains I and my children cannot leave the house, secondly our husbands are not working so there is no income to gather for the children.”

Another Kadoro resident, Rose Akota, appealed to the government to provide women in the area with capital to start small businesses to support their families.

Meanwhile, the area Chief, Anthony Olum blamed the lack of services in the area on delays by the authorities to demarcate the area.

“The main problems is the roads because since we come to the area it was not demarcated but we raised the concern to the authority of Rajaf Payam to look into it.”

Kadoro residential area is located in Gumbo Sherikat.

It is a makeshift suburb occupied by civilians who returned from the refugees camps in 2010.
