Presidential press secretary says an amnesty will be offered to members of the SPLM in Opposition who joined the fighting because of emotions.

Ateny Wek Ateny says the president will offer the amnesty to allow those who want to participate in the next general elections to return home and contest for any seats.

“In order for free and fair elections to be conducted, there out to be some sort of amnesty to be given to some of the people who might have actually not thought about the rebellion because there are those who might have just joined.” He said. “…those who did not plan to rebel against the state are going to be given amnesty prior to the election.” The Presidential Press Secretary carried on.

Ateny did not specify how to identify those he says planed the fighting and those who did not.

He says voters will go to the ballot boxes on the 30th of June.
