Gov’t needs to disconnect from National Army-SPLM/DC

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – Democratic Change says the ruling party has failed to disconnect itself from the National Army and that was the reason behind the current crisis.

The chairman of the SPLM-DC, Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin said some army generals and commanders are still in the government and they still have big support in the army. He said the problem that started as an SPLM problem has turned into a national one:

“The SPLM has not delinked itself from the SPLA despite all the calls that people were talking about, despite the facts the law says a political party should not have an extension into the army, it has not delinked itself from the SPLA. So big leaders of the SPLM continue to be called commanders or generals or whatever and some continue to have support within the army. And that is why when a problem happened in the party, it when into the army.”

Dr. Akol condemned the mid-December incident which led to loss of lives. He also accused some ministers in the government of having developed a sense of entitlement since they have held office since 2005. He said ministers should not inherit the ministries they are appointed to.

Dr. La, Akol made the remarks during a political rally he held in Juba on Saturday to discuss solutions to the current crisis in the Country.
