Local residents in Hai Kalibalek of Juba on Saturday woke up to the news of a man who had allegedly murdered his 70-year-old mother – first by stabbing and then burning her to death – and witnesses say she is not his first victim.

According to a Quarter Council official, the man believed to be in his late 30s, was apprehended shortly after his neighbors discovered the remains of his mother identified as Mastura Jogn.

The head of Kalibalek Quarter Council, Wani Isaac told Eye Radio that he was informed about the incident on Saturday, October 7.

“I received a phone call at 4:30 in the morning about this young man burning his mother at night inside a room. When I arrived at the scene of the accident, his mother’s body was placed under the mattress,” Wani said.

“I went immediately and reported the case to the police, and police officers came to the place, and they took the body. My message to the government is to monitor the behavior of young people in residential neighborhoods.”

National Police Spokesperson Major General Daniel Justin also confirmed the arrest and said the case is under investigation.

“Yes, I would like to assure you that a man burned his mother in a room in Kator and was arrested while he was still under investigation by the police. This is what happened on Friday evening.”

– Criminal record –

Khalid Sabit, a witness familiar with the situation, said the murder incident connected to the suspect was not the first of its kind, adding that Mr. Allah – a former soldier, has a criminal record.

”I was one of the first to arrive at the crime scene. I cannot describe the ugliness of the scene. I cannot imagine that man stabbed and burned his mother, who was pregnant with him for nine months,” Sabit said.

Sabit said the suspect is a former death row inmate who was sentenced to death a decade ago, for murdering four people in the Damazin of Sudan’s Blue Nile State.

According to him, the perpetrator’s mother, upon learning that her son is in jail, travelled to Khartoum and tried to facilitate his release.

“She (victim) travelled to Sudan before the country’s secession in an attempt to bring her son, who was accused of committing the murder of an entire family in Damazine and was sent to prison.”

“The mother spent two years trying to get him released and visiting him in the prison with the country’s secession in 2011, the Sudanese authorities released him and ordered his deportation from Sudan.”

However, upon escaping the jaw of death, the suspect who is rumored to be mentally disturbed, was later arrested and convicted for beating and holding his mother and sister hostage.

Again, his late mother resolved the incident, requested his release and forgave him.

Finally, the suspect is understood to have ended the life of his savior mother in the painful homicide, on October 6.
