Nasir County commissioner in Upper Nile State said the UN Mission in South Sudan will establish a temporary base in the area, amid an influx of refugees from Sudan and Ethiopia.

Duol Kun Thian said Sunday he met a UNMISS high-level delegation coming from the state capital, Malakal, to discuss the prospect of their return to the area 8 years after the South Sudan civil war forced them to vacate.

“We discussed general security situations and the status of the ongoing influx of returnees coming from Ethiopia Refugee Camps and Sudan,” Kun said in a statement posted on Facebook.

He said: “UNMISS expressed interest in coming back and operating in Nasir County once again after 8 years of destruction of civil war,” while adding that the state and local authorities have warmly welcomed them “their intention to come home wholeheartedly” as a peacekeeping force and international partner.
