German envoy urges good governance in South Sudan

A German envoy to South Sudan is encouraging the transitional government to prioritize good governance and promote the rule of law in the country.  

Dr. Bjorn Niere, the Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Juba said upholding human rights is critical in ensuring the participation of all members of the society.  

He further urged the government, civil society and the international community to work together to address the root causes of conflict, promote good governance and social cohesion.

“It is imperative that all stakeholders including government, civil society and international partners continue to work together to address the root causes of conflict, promote good governance and social cohesion,” he said.

Ambassador Bjorn was speaking during the inauguration of a water supply system in Yambio town on Thursday.

He said the wellbeing of the South Sudanese people must be at the heart of leaders’ efforts.

“We call upon the government of South Sudan to prioritize good governance and strengthen institutions and promote the rule of law, upholding human rights, fostering dialogue and ensuring the meaningful participation of all members of society is of utmost importance.”

Ambassador Niere further said South Sudan must overcome its significant political challenges that have brought about a complex journey towards stability.
