Former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence on Monday filed to contest for presidency as he joined a tight Republican candidacy race for White House.

Pence, 63, will go head to head with his former boss Donald Trump who is now seeking to unseat Joe Biden in the 2024 elections.

Pence filed his nomination papers with the Federal Election Commission ahead of an official declaration to be made on Wednesday with an event in Iowa.

The former vice president stood by Donald Trump through a shaky four-year tenure, but they fell out in 2020 after Pence refused to overturn Joe Biden’s victory when he was the president of the senate.

He went ahead and certified the 2020 election results on Jan. 6, 2021 amid a Capitol riot that showed Trump supporters chanting chanting “Hang Mike Pence.”

Pence has now joined three other Republicans vying for the White House including Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, who joined the race in February 2023.
