All convoys of trucks carrying humanitarian assistance to insecure parts of the country will now be escorted by security forces, the government has said.

This comes after 45 WFP trucks carrying relief food, were looted by gunmen in Mundri West over the weekend.

The Minister of Information, Michael Makuei, says all state authorities will be notified about the development.

He was addressing reporters after the regular Council of Ministers meeting this afternoon.

“It was decided that the State authority should cooperate with security operators to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance,” Mr Makuei said.

Early this week, the WFP suspended road transportation of food items to the northern parts of the country, following the looting of its trucks.
