A polio vaccination campaign targeting more than 13,000 children below 15 years has started in Fashoda County, Upper Nile State.

The director for health services in the county, Olaw Along, said the four-day campaign will be carried out in all the payams.

“The campaign will start from all four Payams in the County, and teams will move from house to house for four days,” Mr Along told Eye Radio.

Mr Olaw said this is the third polio vaccination campaign in the county so far.

In late 2013, South Sudan and World Health Organization officials reassured locals and the international community that South Sudan was polio-free, after they found that three reported cases of the crippling disease were misdiagnoses.
