Dr. Okuk, a former political analyst and lecturer at the University of Juba, was sworn in on Wendesday by Chief Justice Chan Reec Madut, in a ceremony presided over by President Kiir.

“Amb. Okuk is an active member of the Eye Media/Eye Radio Board of Trustees and a promoter of independent media in the country,” says Stephen Omiri, the Chief Executive Officer of Eye Media.

Dr. Okuk was also a columnist for the Eye Newspaper, a subsidiary publication of Eye Media.

“He is media-friendly, a constructive analyst, and an intellectual debator,” Omiri added.

Dr. Michael Tambura, the Chairperson of Eye Media Board of Directors describes Amb. Okuk as a “scholar and a career diplomat with extensive experience in regional politics.”

Dr. Okuk will now serve in the headquarters until assigned to serve as head or deputy head of mission in the diplomatic field.

Speaking to Eye Radio on Wednesday, he pledged to safeguard political, economic, social and diplomatic interest of the nation.

“We have a lot of core national interests that we have to safeguard even political, economic, social, even environmental or even diplomatic areas,” he said.

“So, this is what we told him (President Kiir) that we will be committed to do what we can in our ability to represent South Sudan in whatever assignment or delegation is given to us and he was happy to hear that.”
