The South Sudan Cup final between Jamus FC Juba and El-Merriekh FC Bentiu ended in chaos on Sunday following a pitch invasion that forced it to be canceled in its final minutes at Buluk Training Center.

The tournament, attended by senior officials including Vice President Dr. James Wani Igga, was forced to stop without a winner after fans stormed the pitch during a penalty’s shootout.

Jamus netted 18 minutes into the game leaving El-Meriekh trailing through the first half.

It was only at the 51st minute that El-Meriekh’s Chikidi Koang scored to cancel Jamus FC’s 1-0 advantage before the game headed for penalties.

During the shootout, El-Merriek had four kicks where they scored two goals and missed two, while Jamus scored three and were about to have the fourth kick, when fans stormed the field.

Chaos ensued afterwards as wild fans started breaking chairs and running around, prompting police to fire shots in the air.

SSFA’s chairperson of organizing committee Wiyual Lam called for an urgent meeting on Monday, to discuss the incident.

“Following the fan-related incident during today’s final match between El Merriekh FC and Jamus FC in the South Sudan Cup, Mr. Wiyual Lam, the chairperson of the SSFA organizing committee, has urgently summoned a meeting scheduled for 10 am tomorrow at the SSFA headquarters,” SSFA said in a statement.
