Democratic Change leadership wrangles

Author : | Published: Tuesday, November 1, 2016

A dispute has emerged among members of the Democratic Change Party on whether to elect a new leader or confirm the acting chairperson.

The process is to replace former chairman, Dr Lam Akol, who resigned from the party 3 months ago.

At a press conference on Monday, a group within the party accused the former Leader of Minority in Parliament, Onyoti Adigo, of influencing the party leadership to conduct an election.

“He raised the matter to the National executive meeting that NLC be convened to elect the new chairman,” Bior Deng Bior, DC secretary-general, told reporters.

Responding to the allegations, Onyoti Adigo dismissed the claims saying the decision was entirely the chairperson’s.

“The problem is not me influencing the process; you know the idea comes from one person – the acting chairman,” Mr Adigo said.

However, Chairperson Donald Gideon told Eye Radio that “I want us to call for the national leadership council to confirm me”.

“Or they elect a new chairman if they do not trust me,” Mr Gideon added.
