Cueibet relatively calm after deadly clashes

Calm has returned to Cueibet County after sectional clashes where at least 14 people were killed on Thursday, Lakes State officials have said.

The fighting between youth continued until Saturday morning in a remote village in the county.

Cueibet County Commissioner, Isaac Mayuom says they have separated the young men to prevent further escalation of clashes.

He says police have been deployed to apprehend those who were involved in the killing.

“Our intention is to disperse them in their gathering; not to gather in one place,” Mr Mayuom told Eye Radio.

“If they gather in one place, they will resume. Their intention is to continue fighting but we refused that. We talked to the elders and even the youth.”

The cause of the fighting has not been established. However, officials often attribute clashes in the area to revenge attacks.
