SPLA, Opposition claim control of Malakal

Both the government and the SPLA-In opposition say they are in control of Malakal Town, after they clashed in the area yesterday.

The Minister of Information in Upper Nile State, Peter Hoth, says the government re-captured the town this morning.

“The fighting started yesterday in Malakal. The opposition was dislodged from Malakal Town and the SPLA finally at 7 am this morning is in control of Malakal Town,” Mr Hoth told Eye Radio.

“There are casualties but at the moment…….the number of casualties are not yet available.”

Meanwhile, the deputy military spokesperson of the SPLA in Opposition, Dickson Gatluak has confirmed clashes.

But he says the town is still under their control.
