The Commissioner of Yei River County, Central Equatoria, has dismissed claims that the SPLA in Opposition Forces have captured Tore Payam.

The Opposition forces had claimed that government forces split and those who defected captured Tore Payam.

Addressing a press conference in Yei this morning, Commissioner David Juma Augustine said there was no attack in the area.

“I confirm that Tore Payam is fully under the control of the Government of the Republic of South Sudan and I still remain in command of the area,” said Mr Augustine.

“Therefore, we have not been attacked and there has not been any break apart of the armed forces of the SPLA neither within Yei nor within the areas around Yei.”

Mr. Juma Augustine was reacting to the report by the military spokesperson of the SPLA in Opposition forces, Brigadier-General, Lul Ruai Koang, that there was a new defection in the SPLA in Central Equatoria State on Wednesday.
