Nyandeng played ‘negative role’ as presidential advisor

President Salva Kiir removed Rebecca Nyandeng because she has played ‘negative role as a senior official on the side of the government, an official has said.

On Tuesday, President Salva Kiir issued a decree dismissing Madam Rebecca Garang, the widow of John Garang De Mabior, from her position as advisor to the President for Gender and Child.

The Presidential press secretary in the office of the President, Ateny Wek Ateny, says Madam Rebecca Garang was paid her salaries and allowances for eight months.

“Madam Nyandeng De Mabior was remove by the President over a view as per public outcry. I can confirm they wanted Madam Nyandeng to be removed since eight months ago,” said Mr Ateny.

“Since December, she has Played the role in the negative in the side of the government and because you cannot have one person who is a rebel and at the same time is a government official but going to relationship between President Salva Kiir with his former President Dr. John Garang De Mabior, the President wanted to give time to Madam Nyandeng to think her position for eight months.”

On the 6th of December last year, Rebecca Garang, and Dr. Riek Machar, and the group of leaders of the ruling party held a press conference in Juba and criticized President Salva Kiir, who is also the leader of the ruling SPLM party.

Other seven Legal Consultants in the Ministry of Justice have also been removed by the Presidential decree at the same time.

Mr. Ateny says the seven Legal Advisors did not report to their work since December last year.

They include Peter Gadkuer Kur, Paul Obang Boring , Abraham Gadkwar Yud, Gac Pouc Dak , Dhil Gadluak Jur, Kuljing Lual and Simon Ruat Mair.
