Church urged to ‘pray for lasting peace’

The team leader of the Faith-based group at the peace talks in Addis Ababa is urging the churches to continue to pray for lasting peace in South Sudan.

Bishop Enock Tombe Stephen of the Episcopal Church, Diocese of Rajaf, is leading the delegation of the South Sudan Council of Churches and the South Sudan Islamic Council to the negotiations.

He told Eye Radio in Addis Ababa that the people of South Sudan must tell the warring parties that time has come for them to stop the war, and bring lasting peace to the country.

“I want to address particular the churches and all people of goodwill to really continue to pray to God so that He can really change the hearts of our political leaders so that they can look at public interest instead of their narrow personal interest or party interest because there is no need to kill one another when we can sort it out like we are now doing under IGAD,” said Bishop Tombe.

Yesterday, the participants to the multi-stakeholders negotiations in Addis Ababa continued with the meetings at the level of the thematic groups in the absence of the parties to the conflict.

The Thematic Committee Groups are discussing the future of the country during the transitional period.
