The government of Central Equatoria State has resolved to temporarily relocate to Kajo-Keji County following the violence that killed 27 people on Thursday.

In an extraordinary meeting held on Friday, the state cabinet said it has decided to temporarily move the government to the troubled border town Kajo-Keji to manage the situation.

The decision was reached as a result of the deadly reprisal attack on several villages, which also left dozens of others wounded and thousands displaced.

On Friday, Commissioner Panuel Dumo said the incident is believed to have been a revenge attack after the killing of cattle by unidentified gunmen in the area last week.

Speaking to the media after an extraordinary cabinet meeting, state minister of Information Andruga Mabe Saverio condemned the incident.

“The council directs the security organs to continue tracking the offenders to face the law and must enforce the return of both the herders and their cattle to their areas of origin,” Minister Andruga said.

“The council also call for immediate humanitarian support from the humanitarian organization for the internally displaced people caused by the current conflict. (We) resolved that the state government relocate temporally to Kajo-keji to manage the crisis effectively from the ground.”

The state Council of Ministers also directed the security forces to implement President Salva Kiir’s order to to herders to take cattle out of Equatoria region.

The state government also directed security forces to implement the order by force. It also called for humanitarian support for the internally displaced person in the area.
