Yei Joint Stars crowned S. Sudan Women Cup champions for 3rd time

 Yei Joint Stars FC were on Tuesday, 30/04/2024 crowned the champions of the 3rd Edition of the South Sudan National Women’s Cup season 2023/2024, for the 3rd time.

Their third times title came after their 3-0 win over Tiger United FC (Aweil) Tuesday evening at Buluk Playground.

The even was attended by the sports figures including the national minister of youth and sports and many other sports officials from state and national

During the awarding ceremony at buluk playground yesterday Coach Sony Harriet was awarded the best coach of the tournament.

Meanwhile Anyiet Wek Maduok, won the top scorer, Mary Dawa, best player and Teresa Nawal, best goalkeeper of the tournament.

Tiger United FC progressed to the final stage after beating Al Wehida FC (Yambio) 2-0 in semi final match on Sunday and Joint Stars overcome Alhilal FC on same day.

However, Al Wahida FC Yambio (Women) has won the third position of South Sudan National Women Cup earlier on Yuesday morning after beating Alhilal FC Wau in third and fourth position match determination this morning.

Alwahida FC took the lead 20 minutes after the kick-off before the they doubled their lead in 5 minutes later.

In the second halve time Alhilal FC score the reconcile goal but Alwahida scored the third goal before the game ended by 4:2 for Alwahida FC.

With the results, Alwahida secured the third position while Alhilal FC is the fourth.

According to the head of organizing committee the winner will receive the trophy plus the financial price which is amount of 5000 USD while the runner up will receive 3000 USD.

However, the third position (Alwahida FC) will receive $2000.

In addition to that the winner will represent the nation in the upcoming CECAFA women cup.

Mvolo County decries lack of roads

Authorities in Mvolo County of Western Equatoria states have decried lack roads in the area they say has hampered farmers from accessing market for their plenty of produce.

The County Commissioner, John Komo Dei raised the concern during the visit by Presidential Affairs Minister Bangasi Joseph Bakasoro and Chief of Administration in the office of the President, Yel Lual Koor at the weekend.

Komo said the locals have cultivated abundant of crops but the farmers are unable to transport their produce to the market due to the lack of roads.

“We, as the people of Mvolo are agriculturalists who care about agricultural activities. We planted crops at the river side, but the biggest challenge for us is the road so we can transport our products to the markets. We do not have passable roads,” he said.

In 2021, the inhabitants of Mvolo mobilized themselves to open up roads manually.

In a photo, the locals were seen using machetes, hoes and other hand equipment to clear through a forest to create a path to ease movement and service delivery within area and aid trade with neighboring communities .

Kombo appealed to the national government to help the community and connect the area through roads.

“We appeal to our national government to help us in this matter.

Komo also invited Juba-based companies to invest in the county, saying the area is rich in minerals.

” The companies that market things and resources are all based in the capital, Juba, but in Mvolo here we are have other things and resources, such as gold.”.

The County official was speaking on the state-owned TV, SSBC on Friday.

 

Child killed, four others injured in Yambio lightening strikes

A boy was killed, his cousin and four other siblings injured in separate lightning strikes in Yambio town of Western Equatoria State on Monday.

Yambio town Mayor John Singira says lightning struck a house at Kpirabe residential area, killing a child and injuring another.

Similar incident in Malakiya residential area left four siblings injured.

According to Singira, both incidents happened at around 3:00PM amid a heavy downpour.

“Yesterday (Monday) at around 3:00 pm, there was a heavy rain when the thunder struck children. One house had 4 children, and the other house had 2, one was dead, two were in critical condition  but the other one is at least fine.

Meanwhile, eyewitness Nancy Peter says the deceased was her brother’s son. Nancy’s son was struck along with the brother’s as they ran to collect a fallen Mango in the neighborhood.

Her son survived the lightning strike.  “When it was raining,  we were inside the room. Then a mango fell in the house of a neighbor and when they [children] ran to bring the mango,  the thunder struck them.

“When I ran from the room, I found two of them on the ground, one died and the other one was still breathing. The one that died is my brother’s son. Then I took my son to the hospital and he was given medicines and he is now okay,” she narrated to to Eye Radio what happened.

Lighting is common in Western Equatoria State and has claimed several lives each year.

According to National Geographic, lightning kills or can cause cardiac arrest, including injuries ranging from severe burns and permanent brain damage to memory loss and personality change.

Governor Adil reshuffles several state officials

The Governor of Central Equatoria has reshuffled several directors and chairpersons of key institutions in gubernatorial decrees read on the national broadcaster, SSBC TV on Friday evening.

Governor Adil released Elizabeth Pita Lugor from her position as the Chairperson of the Pension Fund.

Adil also relieved Robert Beda Tira from his position as the Chairperson of the Juba Special Economic Zone.

In the same decree, he also removed Dwoki Moses Ismail, the technical advisor of the State Investment Corporation Authority, and Data Moses Lodoru as the Deputy Chairperson of the Special Economic Zone.

Felix Laku Godum was also relieved from his position as the Executive Director for the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission

However, Adil relieved Laku Micah Wani from his position as the Executive Director of Pension Fund and Mathew Abujin Enoka from his position as a Member of the State Vision 2040.

In another decree, Adil appointed Elizabeth Pita Lugor as the Chairperson of the Special Economic Zone and Pitia David Stephen as the Chairperson of the Pension Fund.

While Robert Beda Tira was appointed as the Technical Advisor to the State Investment Corporation Authority and Data Moses Lodoru as the Deputy Chairperson of the Pension Fund

Laku Micha Wani was appointed as the deputy chairperson of the Special Economic Zone, and Mathew Abujin Enoka as the Executive Director of the State Relief and Rehabilitation Commission.

Adil appointed Dwoki Moses Ismail as the Executive Director of the Pension Fund and Felix Laku Godum as a Member of the State Vision 2040.

He also Ajo Noel Julius as the legal consultant to the Juba Special Economic Zone.

The gubernatorial decrees and orders were affected on Friday, 05th April 2024.

 

 

Kiir integrates Agwelek leader Olony, his senior officers into SSPDF

President Salva Kiir and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces has integrated into the SSPDF Johnson Olony, the former leader of the Agwelek forces as a Lieutenant General, and his deputy Thomas Mabor  Dhuol  as  Major General, according to spokesperson Major General Lul Ruai.

Johson Olony and Thomas Mabor commanded the former rebel group as General and 1st Leutenant Generals respectively.

In a document dated April 3rd, obtained by Eye Radio Kiir also integrated ten former senior officers of the Kit-Gwang/Agwelek forces as Brigadiers.

These include James Buony Muon, Parom Anguei Otient Kudit, Chang Diing Anyong Majok,  Sabino Otor Kayal Yor, Deng Garang Chol Bul, Lero Olok Odola Goy and Stephen Aban Kwathi Akui.

Others are Adwok Ogeny Mallwak Dowin,  Malual Riak Puok and Kuany.

“On the third of this month. H.E the President in his capacity as Commander- in-chief of SSPDF commissioned and integrated into SSPDF Senor officers from Agweleg forces.

“General Johnson Olony was commissioned and integrated into SSPDF as Lieutenant General, General. Mabor Dhuol was commissioned and integrated at the rank of Major General, and the rest as brigadiers,” said Gen.Lul

Meanwhile, Gen Lul confirmed that, a 15-member committee was dispatched to Malakal recently to assemble the former Aqwelek forces for screening and integration into the SSPDF forces.

The committee is being led by  Major General Kolang Mayen, the deputy chief of military intelligence of the SSPDF.

“About a week ago an advance team  went to Malakal with the clear responsibility and preferred forces and take them to various assemble areas.

“When they are done with the assembling of the forces,  they will send the  message to the main committee and the main committee will fly to Malakal  to go and start screening, reorganization and integration of Agwaleg forces into SSPD, ” Lul added.

The 2022 deal in Khartoum, Sudan

The latest development is part of implementation of the Jannuary 16, 2022 peace accord between the SPLM-IG and the Kit-Gwang faction of the SPLM/A-IO that aimed at expediting full implementation of the September 2018 peace accord.

The Kit-Gwang splinter group was under Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual, the Former SPLA-IO Chief of General Staff, deputized by Gen. Johnson Olony of the Agwelek forces.

But the two men signed two separate agreements on Sunday despite all being the leaders of the same faction.Gatwech abandoned the deal later on citing it slow implementation.

The agreement between Gen. Gatwech and the Kiir’s party underscored the status of forces and maintaining the 2018 permanent cease fire agreement.

They also agreed that, the President Kiir issued an amnesty to the forces and leadership of the SPLM/A-IO Kitgwang as previously done on August 8, 2018.

The agreement also provides for the establishment of coordination offices in Bor and Malakal to enable for the reintegration of the forces into the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces.

In another separate deal, Olony agreed with the government to maintain the borders of Shilluk land as they stood on January 1, 1956.

They also agreed to maintain a separate force until when preparations and arrangements are completed to reintegrate them into the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces.

The Director of Internal Security Bureau Gen. Akol Koor Kuch signed on behalf of the government.

Presidential Adviser on National Security Affairs, Tut Gatluak who headed the delegation assured the splinter group for full implementation of the agreement including integrating their forces into the national army.

But General Gatwech later abandoned the deal citing a slow implementation, accusing the SPLM-IO and Johnson Olony of doing it not in good faith.

Yambio police searching for man wanted for domestic assault

The police in Yambio, Western Equatoria State are searching for civilian man who shot and wounded his wife on Friday night.

According to Gen. Albino Otto who is the state police commissioner, suspect William Gowangi fought with his wife at night.

The police official said as the 22-year old victim he identified as Mary Beba tried to escape the violence, the man  shot and wounded her left arm.

“Last night at 11:30 PM, a married man fought with his wife. When the wife tried to run from the house, he took a gun and shot his wife in her left hand, but it did not break the born,” Gen. Otto confirmed to Eye Radio Saturday morning.

The culprit then fled the crime scene. The motive of the fighting is unclear, but Gen. Otto said the police are investigating the incident while a search to apprehend the suspect is ongoing.

“He run away, and police investigation is ongoing,” he said.

Gen.Otto said the woman has been taken to the hospital and she is stable condition.

 

 

UK MPs deeply concerned over escalating situation in Sudan, S. Sudan

The United Kingdom’s All-Party Parliamentary Group for Sudan and South Sudan has expressed deep concern about what it describes as a dire and escalating Situation in the two neighboring countries.

“As Cross-Party Parliamentarians from the UK, we remain deeply concerned about the escalating situation in Sudan and South Sudan,” the statement posted on X27 March 2024, by Vicky Ford of the House of Commons reads.

It did not elaborate on the situation in South Sudan, but the statement comes amid ongoing dilemmas on how the country will end the transitional period.

Concerning the Sudan conflict, the UK Cross-Party Parliamentarians, called for an immediate and unconditional cease-fire from all parties in Sudan.

They also called for an end to all funding to warring parties and the provision of arms to the conflict in Sudan.

The UK MPs urged unrestricted and unfettered humanitarian access to all areas of Sudan for all civilians in need.

Meanwhile, the group says, it remains committed to advocating for peace, stability, and human rights in Sudan, and called on the government and international community to support these urgent priorities and address the worsening crisis in Sudan.

 

 

SSRA extends order on truck electronic tracking devise

South Sudan Revenue Authority has extended the period for the enforcement of the Ministerial order on the Electronic Cargo Tracking of trucks to 15th of March.

On the 4th of March 2024, the Commissioner for Customs Division issued a circular, that all importers and exporters must comply with the tracking system.

Africano Mande also imposed a mandatory service fee of $350 on importers and exporters as a prerequisite to obtain a certificate.

The initiative between the government of South Sudan and a Ugandan private Company, Invesco aims to combat goods smuggling.

However, on 6, March, the Revenue Authority issued another circular, directing the Commissioner for Customs to extend the enforcement Cargo Tracking system grace period the up to 15th of March.

It cited that the time given was too short as some importers and exporters missed out on complying with the Ministerial order.

The decision followed a meeting between the commissioners of South Sudan and Uganda revenue authorities.

“The meeting resolved to extend the grace period to 15 March 2024 and it is then that no importer and exporter will be allowed to load and move towards and outside South Sudan will be fully compliance with Mandatory Electronic Cargo Tracking Note,” reads the statement.

An Electronic Cargo Tracking Note (ECTN), also known as a Waiver Certificate, is a mandatory shipping document for importing cargo to 25 African countries.

The Cargo Tracking Note is designed to provide local customs authorities with the required information and visibility about the import shipment
