Aid workers killed in Leer

Author : | Published: Wednesday, August 26, 2015

The medical charity MSF says two of its aid workers have been killed in an attack in Leer County, Unity.

They include a logistician and a health worker, who were killed in separate incidents last week.

In a statement released on Tuesday, MSF says it is deeply shocked and saddened by the killings.

“While MSF has received confirmation of their deaths, we do not yet know the precise circumstances under which these killings took place,” the aid group said.

It says this is an indication level of violence civilians in Unity state are currently exposed to.

The MSF says it was forced to evacuate its aid workers in leer as fighting in Unity State intensified.

It says its hospital in the area, which was also the only secondary healthcare facility remains non-functional for around 200,000 people.
