Col Philip Aguer, SPLA Spokesman.

The army says it is waiting for Central Equatoria State government to approve the areas demarcated for its relocation.

According to the peace agreement signed in August, the army is supposed to be redeployed 25Kms out of Juba within 30 days after its signing, and the process should be finished within 90 days.

About a month ago, the SPLA identified eight areas along Juba – Nimule road, Juba – Kajo-keji road, Juba-Yei Road, Juba – Maridi Road, and Juba-Terekeka Road, among others.

“If that green-light is given, then the construction of the barracks will start immediately,” said Col Philip Aguer, SPLA spokesperson.

Only a small number of organized forces, comprising of troops from both the government and the SPLM in opposition, will be left in Juba during the interim period.

They will guard key government infrastructure, and maintain law and order within the city.
