IGAD setting up consultation meetings -Addis

IGAD meditators for the South Sudan Peace process are organizing a consultation meeting with all the stakeholders in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

The spokesperson of the governments’ delegation to the negotiations, Michael Makuei, told Eye Radio in Addis Ababa this afternoon that the meeting brought together the heads of the different delegations plus three members from each group.

“… the mediators gave us their agenda for the meetings and the meetings were actually consultative meetings between the mediators and all the stakeholders. And it was by representation one plus two; that is three from the each delegation, and today we had a meeting as the government’s delegation.” He said.

Makuei said the mediators told them to continue to negotiate the outstanding issues which the warring parties disagreed on during the last round of talks.

A representative of South Sudan Islamic Council, Juma Saeed, said their presence as religious leaders in Addis Ababa is to pressure the warring parties to negotiate in good faith and end the violence.

“The sole language spoken by everybody in South Sudan now, whether they are women, or orphans, or youth, boys or girls, or mothers or even from ordinary citizens or those in the market, the only language they speak is peace”, Saeed said.

The consultation meetings are executed to end tomorrow before the start of the phase one of the seventh round of the peace talks scheduled to start this week.
