The government of Kenya says people entering Kenya from South Sudan will continue to apply for visas manually as the new online process continues.

The Kenyan embassy in Juba announced in August that it was adopting online visa application for all visitors to the country, and it was to be effective this month.

“The Embassy of the Republic of Kenya presents its complements to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan and has the honour to inform the Esteemed Ministry that the Government of Kenya as of 8^th September, 2015 has reinstated manual visa to run concurrently with the online E-Visa System,” the Kenyan government stated in a circular.

“The purpose of this Note Verbale is to request you to inform the Ministry in charge of Immigration in the Republic of South Sudan, all embassies accredited to South Sudan, border agencies and airlines flying to and from Nairobi, that the reinstatement takes effect immediately.”

Under the new measure, foreigners traveling to Kenya would be required to fill their application forms online and pay using visa cards or master cards, about seven days in advance.

They would then receive the visa through an online account, which they could print and present to immigration officials at the point of entry.

Hundreds of South Sudanese travel to Kenya daily, according to officials. They include students, businesspeople, and the sick, who seek better medical attention in the east African nation.
