IGAD urged to give warring parties more time to consult on contentious issues

A member of the Faith-based group to the peace talks in Addis Ababa has urged IGAD to give more time to the warring parties to make consultations on the outstanding issues.

These include power sharing, the system of governance and the reintegration of forces during the interim period.

Rev. Peter Tibi says the stakeholders to the talks should engage in a comprehensive national dialogue before going for the next round of talks.

He says they have presented the request to the IGAD mediators.

“We have given our options to IGAD. It is to extend a session to finish with the issues that have been substantial,” Rev Tibi said.

The peace talks were adjourned last month after the warring parties failed to agree on the contentious issues.

IGAD says the next round of the peace talks is expected to begin in April.
