Members of the Western Bahr al Ghazal State assembly have elected a new deputy speaker.
All the MPs who attended the sitting last evening unanimously elected Mary Emilio Bafuka for the position.
She is the first woman to occupy the position in the state assembly since independence.
Speaker Mario Nyibang says the election of Ms Emilio is significant in the promotion of gender balance.
