In Pariang County, Unity State, more than 2,500 cattle have died of an unknown disease since October.
Commissioner Monylang Manyiel says the disease could be related to oil pollution of the environment.
“We believe that it is a result of oil because the area is producing oil. Up to now the death of cows is still ongoing,” Mr Manyiel told Eye Radio.
The commissioner urged the government to intervene.
“It has not stopped and there is no any help or support and there is no medicine. The animals are just dying.”
The commissioner urges the government to make an assessment of the damages caused by the pollution in the area.
