A Member of Parliament representing Western Equatoria State says eight people have now been confirmed dead, and nearly five injured in the ‘random shooting’ incident in Maridi town.

However, he says it is now calm in the town.

Authorities say the conflict was started by a grenade attack on a slaughterhouse, in a cattle camp near the town on Sunday, killing seven cows.

They say the community leaving around then reacted.

Pasquali Clement is an MP representing Western Equatoria state in the National Parliament.

“Yesterday, we talked to the commissioner, and he told us that the number of dead people they are able to confirmed is about 8,” Hon Clement said.

“But he also say he doesn’t know of the periphery; maybe some people might have been killed at the periphery and other dead bodies are collected by their relatives.

Honorable Pasquali says security forces have been deployed to ensure there is no more violence. He said the government is looking into the matter.
