60 Teachers Participate in Maths & Science Teaching Competition

A national teaching competition in Mathematics and Science has attracted about sixty teachers from across South Sudan.

The competition is part of a strategy to strengthen teachers’ skills in teaching science and mathematics.

“We’ve organized this teaching competition for teachers who are trained in the program of Science and Mathematics Education and in South Sudan, SMASESS, so that we would be able to share with the public the extent of the impact of the program,” the deputy director for quality assurance and standards at the Ministry of General Education, John Lujang, told Eye Radio.

For his part, Yuki Nakamura from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, who are sponsoring the competition said “there’re so many teachers who would like to know science and Mathematics. After five years, we found that there are so many good teachers teaching science and Mathematics and we would like to motivate these teachers.”

Angunde Cecilia Bii from Western Equatoria State is one of the participants. She said “the benefit we learned from this project is the initiative of how a teacher has to develop the activities for a learner to receive the knowledge in Mathematics and Science with interest.”

The competition which has been running since Monday closed on Wednesday.
