55 killed in Ayod clashes

More than 55 soldiers were killed and 13 wounded on the both sides in a clash with the SPLM in Opposition forces in Ayod County of Jonglei State on Wednesday, according to the SPLA.

SPLA spokesman Col Philip Aguer says the opposition forces attacked government positions.

“They withdrew and left more than 54 soldiers dead, among them, 5 officers,” Col Aguer told Eye Radio.

“And on the government side we lost 3 soldiers and 13 injured.”

Col Aguer says no more clashes have been reported since yesterday. The SPLM in Opposition has not commented on the matter.
