5 foreigners released on bail over defilement case in Aweil

Police in Aweil have released on bail five foreign teachers who were detained after their colleague suspected of defiling a 17-year-old student escaped.

This comes after the Ugandan Community in Aweil assured the police of co its search efforts to find the suspect.

According to Northern Bahr el Ghazal State police, the unnamed fugitive teacher is the main suspect, but the freed teachers were hiding his whereabouts.

Speaking to Eye Radio, the state police spokesperson says the five Ugandan teachers have been released to the management of Cornerstone School, while the case has been forwarded to the court.

“The first teachers of the Cornerstone that were under investigation in regards to the defilement of the 17-years student, the teachers have been bailed as per the directive from the public persecutor,” said Captain Guot told Eye Radio.

“We handed them over to the owner of Cornerstone School until the first hearing of the court the case file has been handed over to the court,” he said.

“The first hearing will be determined by the court and the parties will be also notified by the court.”

“I want to confirm that we officially handed them over to Cornerstone administration with a strong bail.”
