3 killed, 2 injured in Jonglei road ambushes

At least three people were killed, and two others injured on Wednesday and Thursday in separate road ambushes in Bor and Piji counties of Jonglei State.

Jonglei Police Commissioner Major General Elia Costa said the first incident was on September 27, when two people riding on a motorbike were waylaid by unknown gunmen between Anyidi Payam and Bor town.

General Costa said 21-year-old Machok Makot was shot and killed on spot while his colleague, whom the police official did not name, managed escaped from the attackers.

“They were coming back at around 5 pm they fell into an ambush, and they shot one-person dead this is the incident that occurred on September 27 in the road between Anyidi and Bor Anyidi is a payam in Bor County,” Costa narrated.

“We sent our forces there, but no one was identified, and we consider it as unknown criminals who did that because up to now, we did not arrest anyone.”

The police official said the second incident occurred on Thursday evening in Piji County where a truck carrying goods was ambushed.

Two travelers were killed, and two others were wounded, according to Costa.

“A truck carrying goods was ambushed that led to the killing of two people and injury of another two, we do not have the details if the people killed are traders or not, what we know is that two people were killed and another two were injured.”
