Two civilians were shot dead and a pregnant woman was wounded in a cattle raid attack in Longechuk County of Upper Nile State in the early hours of May 24.

According to the county commissioner armed assailants from Nassir County attacked several cattle camps in the area.

Dak Tut Dei identified the deceased as 55-year-old Lek Negai and the eight-year-old boy, only as Lul.

He told Eye Radio that the wounded pregnant woman by the name of Nyawech Lul is receiving treatment at Mathiang Hospital.

Tut added that the attackers raided 127 heads of cattle after attacking the Gobach Cattle Camp and other areas.

This, he says, resulted in the displacements of one-thousand-two hundred individuals in Gobach village, five hundred in Lanyday village, and seven hundred individuals in Nak-man-Nyang, making a total of two-thousand and eight-four individuals.

Commissioner Dak Tut Dei appeals to humanitarian agencies and partners for immediate interventions.

“On 24th May 2023 which is on Wednesday at 8 pm, the attackers killed two people and one pregnant woman wounded, they are from Nasir of Kiechkuon Payam,” said Commissioner Tut.

“The situation has returned to normal but still, we have tension because we have information from the commissioner of Nasir that there are some youths still roaming in the bush.”

The County Commissioner condemned the attack on innocent civilians and called upon the Nasir County authorities, particularly in greater Kiechkuon Payams, to apprehend the assailants and return the raided 127 cattle to their rightful owners.
