Hippo kills 52-year-old woman in Aweil East

This is not the first time where hippo killed a person in Aweil

A 52-year-old woman has been reportedly attacked and killed by a wild hippopotamus in Aweil East County on Thursday, May 25.

The police spokesperson in the state, says the woman he identified as Aluet Aluong Mawien had gone to Nyabyei River for fishing when the wild animal attacked and killed her.

The incident occurred in Wun-Atem Mei village at dawn in Aweil East County.

“This incident took place in an area of Aweil East County named of Wun-Atem Mei. What happened is that a hippopotamus attacked a 52-year-old woman, bit and killed her,” Gout Gout Akol told Eye Radio.

“The accident occurred as some people were fishing at a nearby river called Nyabyei,

“On the morning of the twenty-fifth of this month, the woman went to collect the remaining fish and when she started fishing at the riverside, one of the hippos came and attacked the woman and killed her.”

He says in 2017, a hippopotamus killed one person and critically injured another in Aweil South County in the state,

While in 2019, a 48-year-old man was killed by a hippopotamus in Wathmuok of Aweil a local official said.
