The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it has not received any official information from Ethiopia about an attack in which more than 100 people were killed in Gambella.

In a statement, the Ethiopian government said the attack was allegedly carried out by people from South Sudan but did not mention the exact number of casualties.

Residents in Gambella told Eye Radio that the attack happened on Friday and continued until yesterday.

Media reports showed that 140 people were killed that day and the toll has risen to 208.

The reports also indicate that 75 people were wounded, 108 children abducted and more than 2,000 heads of cattle raided.

Ethiopia’s communication’s office disclosed that victims of the attack include women and children.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign affairs, Amb Mawien Makol, says the government of Ethiopia has to investigate the killing and give them an official notification.

“If this is a group of unknown attacking people in the refugee camp this is a criminal act that the government of Ethiopia needs to let us know about,” Amb Makol told Eye Radio.

The statement by Ethiopia’s Communication Office announced that the country’s defense force has started searching for the attackers.
