Police in western Uganda have arrested an elderly man suspected of stabbing his 105-year-old wife on Friday for denying him conjugal rights, local media reported.

Dominic Babiiha was apprehended in the Ntungamo District for allegedly murdering wife Constansio Bakasisa using a wood-cutting tool in their home, according to Daily Monitor newspaper.

Preliminary police investigation found that the incident resulted from a misunderstanding in which the victim declined Babiiha’s request to have her join him in bed.

“It is alleged that at 8 PM on December 14, the deceased had turned down the husband’s request to join him in bed because she was feeling weak and had a cough,” Rwizi Police Spokesperson Samson Kasasira told Monitor.

Mr. Kasasira, the deceased, after refusing her husband’s request, had gone to sleep in a separate room together with her two great grandchildren.

The following day, neighbors reportedly told the police they heard the alleged perpetrator swearing that “he couldn’t die alone”.

The suspect was later seen armed with a billhook weapon by one of his grandchildren who had opened the door to check if anything was wrong.

Kasasira added: “it is then that the suspect immediately started stabbing the deceased multiple times forcing the grandchildren to run out and seek help from the neighbors.”

The suspect was later found to have drugged himself to unconsciousness with a bottle of agricultural chemical in an attempted suicide, Monitor reported.
