Sudan Secondary School Certificate Examinations started this morning in more than 80 centers in nine states across the country.

Some10, 000 candidates are taking the exams. More than 3,000 candidates are girls.

There are no candidates in Eastern Equatoria State and Abyei because they have phased out the Sudan curriculum.

“We hope this year the performance will be much better,” said John Gai, Minister of Education.

Candidates have expressed confidence to pass the exams.

“I’m ready for the exams but I’m a little bit nervous and afraid because it’s my first time to sit this exams,” said Baboya Anwar, a candidate. “I hope to answer all the questions and succeed.”

More than 2,500 candidates are taking the exams in Western Bhar al-Ghazal State.

But in Upper Nile State, the Secretary General for the Examinations, Lul Ruei Dhol said 78 candidates in Malakal town will not take their exams due to insecurity.
