Yei probes attack on aid workers

Author : | Published: Thursday, December 8, 2016

The Minister of Information in Yei River State says investigations are being carried out into an ambush of humanitarian workers this week.

Earlier this week, a vehicle belonging to an aid organization known as ACROSS, fell into an ambush on its way to a refugee camp in Lasu.

Stephen Ladu says the state government condemns attacks of Humanitarian organization workers who are providing humanitarian assistance in the area.

“So we condemn whoever attacked in the strongest possible terms because that’s not good to attack humanitarian organizations or vehicles,” he said.

Mr Ladu did not confirm the number of the people who died during the ambush, but he said one of the survivors is under treatment.

He said the investigation is to find out who is behind the attack.

Mr Ladu also said the state government has ordered the organized forces to maintain security in Yei town and other areas within the state.

He said this is to ensure security for humanitarian organizations after the incident.
