Opposition political party SPLM-DC is calling for a national dialogue conference to discuss a road-map for lasting peace in South Sudan.

The leader of the party, Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin says the current government cannot run the country beyond July.

“While we are preparing for peace, this government cannot run the country because first of all its term has finished, and so, if peace is not brought about by the 9th of July, we must have a national dialogue conference that will discuss the roadmap for the peace and then that conference will elect or appoint or agree a new government of national unity that is comprise of all the political parties,” he said.

“It cannot be this same government to go ahead as if it is business as usual, it cannot; they failed.”

Dr. Akol also said the recent extension of the term of office of the state governors for three years beyond the 9th of July is unconstitutional.

Early this week, President Salva Kiir met with the governors and caretaker governors and agreed on the extension of their mandate.
