The National Legislative Assembly

A race for the new speaker of the National Transitional Assembly has begun, with the Equatoria caucus of the SPLM sending names of four candidates to the President.

The four are David Nailo, Betty Achan, Luka Monoja, and Lino Makana.

The chairman of the Equatoria Caucus in the national parliament says he expects Equatorians from all the political parties to sit together to elect the speaker regardless of political affiliations.

Thomas Wani Kundu told Eye Radio that the political affiliation of the nominee does not matter as long the person is from the Equatoria region.

“We need to sit together so that we can get one person… as long as he is from Equatoria,” Hon Kundu said.

Mr Kundu says the SPLM in Opposition is expected to present a nominee for the position.

The peace agreement says the speaker will be from Equatoria but it does not say anything about the political party of the candidate.
