Elections in 2015 will not be done.” Prof Abdednego Akok, the Chairperson, National Elections Commission said.

The National Elections Commission has officially postponed the general elections, which were scheduled for June.

It has not announced a new date.

The chairman of the commission, Prof Abdednego Akok, says the postponement is in line with the amended interim national constitution.

“It is extended because the future of the current institutions is pushed ahead according to the amendment which has been initialed by the president on the 27th of March, 2015.” He said.

An alliance of more than 10 political parties has sued the commission at the Supreme Court over the poll date.

Prof Akok says the next sitting of the court will be on the 27th of April to decide on the suit.
