Authorities in Kajo-Keji County in Central Equatoria State have agreed with their counterparts in Uganda to compensate farmers whose crops were destroyed by cattle this month.

About 60 cattle crossed from Kajo-Keji to Moyo district in Uganda and grazed in the farmlands.

Ugandan farmers responded by seizing the cattle.

Leaders from both sides conducted an assessment of the damage today.

Bingwa John is the Assistant Residential District Commissioner for Moyo.

He said: “First of all we had a joint security meeting at the border, and we agreed that the cows be released and we also agreed that we come down and we use the agriculture experts to assess the damage they have done”

However, the chairperson of the Kajo Keji County Legislative Council, Wolyan Patrick, says some of the cattle that were seized have not been released.

“We agreed that the cattle which were taken be brought to Kajo keji and what we have brought were 44 and the other remaining is 17 but that is the next question to answer.” He said.

The committee of experts assessing the damage is expected present its findings within this week.
