Juba, Khartoum to discuss border closure threats

Author : | Published: Monday, September 19, 2016

South Sudan will discuss in a forum with Khartoum officials a new threat to close the border, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced.

On Sunday, Sudanese government officials said they would close the border within days if South Sudan does not expel rebel groups fighting the Khartoum government with an alleged support from Juba.

“We are still maintaining those contacts that we were using regarding the issues of the complaints,” said Mawien Makol, Spokesman.

Last month, the two countries pledged to stop supporting rebels against the other within 21 days to improve bilateral relations.

However, it is not clear how much both governments have achieved since they made the agreement.
