Juba airport runway extended by 700m

The Juba International Airport runway has been extended by 700 meters to provide more space for landing and takeoff, an official has said.

They say the number of planes landing and taking off has been limited due to lack of enough space.

In July, aviation officials announced the closure of the airport during weekends, starting from the 22nd of August to the 30th of April this year, to allow for renovation.

However, airport director Kur Kuol Kur now says the new length will be officially opened in May this year.

Mr Kur told Eye Radio that workers are now finishing the final phases of the extension.

He further said planes will be relocated in March to a new parking lot that has been built to improve traffic at the airport.
