Church leaders in former Central Equatoria have raised concern about insecurity and the economic crisis.

Representatives from the Dioceses of Episcopal Church of South Sudan and Sudan issued the statement after a three-day meeting in Terekeka town.

“We are concerned about the deteriorating economic situation in the country and the growing insecurity in Equatoria and other regions in South Sudan, despite the signing of the peace agreement in August 2015,” said Hillary Luwate Adeba, Chairman of the Cluster.

“We urge the peace partners to expedite that process in order to address the challenges facing the people of South Sudan.”

Bishop Luwate, who is the Bishop of Yei, said internally displaced persons from Wonduruba and Mundri are facing food shortage.

He warned that the situation might worsen.

The meeting discussed the plan for the formation of the internal Province in Central Equatoria and the economic and political situation in the county.

The bishops, clergy and laity were from the dioceses of Terkeka, Lainya and Rokon.

Others were from Kajo-keji, Wondruba, Rejaf and Yei
