Students of Nile High School in Yei River County are outraged by the government’s plan to change the school curriculum – just as they prepare to sit for Ugandan School exams.

The government wants the candidate to sit for the South Sudan National examinations

The over 170 students said they have been studying under the Ugandan syllabus and cannot be told to sit for exams under the South Sudan syllabus.

“We are not happy with what the government did because we started Uganda syllabus since senior 1 up to senior 3 and now they are tuning us back for South Sudan which we cannot manage,” said a female student.

“This is like starting a course a gain from zero level,” said another student.

Meanwhile, the Central Equatoria state Minister of Education, Hastin Yokwe, told Eye Radio that an assessment team will be sent to Yei to look into the complains of the students.

“And out of that assessment report we shall be able to make a decision.”

Mr. Yokwe said three counties in the state are still using Ugandan Syllabus and curriculum.

He also said the government plans to change the Sudan curriculum which is still being taught in some schools in Juba County.
