The Minister of Sport in Western Equatoria State says no cars are on the streets today in Yambio town in honor of the bicycle riding day that will be marked every Easter Monday starting today.

The event is organized by the government and the church to promote peace and unity among the people in the area.

The minister of Youth and Sport says government officials, civil society activists and church leaders are participating in the ridding competition.

“There’re two things within this exercise. One is to revise our culture of bicycle riding to let people know that bicycle shouldn’t be forgotten because of having a new technology of transport these days.”

“And the second thing is; we are also advocating for peace.” Bullen Wondu Gibson told Eye Radio, adding that bicycle riding is part of the culture of the people of the state.

He says more than one hundred people have joined the riding completion that started from the airstrip to the stadium.
